Iota Gamma: Summer of 2014-2015

Hi, all!
I know 2 AM is not exactly an ideal time to write a post, but it's my weekend break from working nights this summer and I'm insistent that I will keep you guys, the alumni, community, and public, in the loop about all of the happenings of Iota Gamma this year.

We are all super excited to make a difference for the Washington State Music Department this year. We've already begun friendly relations with our new Director of Athletic Bands and Kappa Kappa Psi alumnus, Dr. Troy Bennefield. He has plenty of fantastic and new ideas to improve the Marching and Symphonic Bands this year.

Our newly elected Vice President of Service Hannah Kelly has been hard at work putting together ideas and projects for next year, as well as putting together a website to keep everyone up to date, as well. Props to her for all of the effort she has been putting into it! I will post the link when the website is finished and prepared for viewing.

As for the Public Relations front, I hope to boost our image this year. I've already been hard at work planning an updated board about our fraternity in Kimbrough Music Building to be finished before band camp this year. From there, I will begin works to make ourselves more well-known on a District level, as well as a recognizable chapter at the National level. The easiest way to do that is through PR and attendance at larger events, so I plan on investing a lot of time to make sure we can do that!

This is a group that can make leaps and bounds forward in one year and we are all excited for it!
Here is a list of our officers and chairs for this year:
  • President: Hannah Johnson
  • Vice President of Membership: Sarah Krause
  • Vice President of Service: Hannah Kelly
  • Secretary: Christine Sandquist
  • Treasurer: Eric Stoess
  • Historian: Emily Boyd
  • Sergeant at arms: Victor Whitney
  • Public Relations: Frank Carr
  • Brotherhood/Joint Relations: Kat Lambino
  • Social: Michelle Gonzales
  • Ritual: Hannah Johnson

I am so proud to be a part of this organization and am so excited for our next steps as a chapter. The determination, passion, and brotherhood that we all have will make many (if not all) of the ideas we have a reality. 25 years in and we will make this one count! Go Cougs!

The Iota Gamma chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi 2013-2014

Our chapter is starting this blog so we can keep our alumni, community and the public up to date with all that we are doing. We have just finished the third week of our fall semester and we have already started to be active with the Cougar Marching Band and the WSU School of Music.

For service, our chapter has been helping our administrative manager. She has asked us to take boxes of archived programs and to grab the best looking one from out each folder. These programs have been in the basement of the music building and were there when the basement was flooded. We help out with this every Friday afternoon and have deemed the project "Funky Friday's" because of the mold that appears on the programs from the flooding. While this project occurs, some of us help replace the paper on bulletin boards throughout the building.

We have just started out first fundraiser and the actual event is scheduled for this Tuesday! Piefest is a traditional fundraiser for our chapter and involves the section leaders and drum majors of the marching band. CMB members purchase tickets to pie their section leaders or drum majors. At the event, one tickets gets pulled for each section leader/drum major and whoever gets picked, gets to pie that section leader/drum major.

Amongst the PR side of things, our new appointed chair, Emily Boyd, has been doing an excellent job. She has gotten a start with relations with administration and has already begun our weekly faculty treats.

Overall, I believe that this is going to be a great year for our chapter. We have so many ideas and I believe that the group we have, can make things happen! I am so excited to see what the rest of the year has for us!
